Adverse Drug Reaction Classification System

Pharmaceutical Information
Drug Name Isoprenaline
Drug ID BADD_D01205
Description Isoprenaline is a non-selective beta adrenergic receptor agonist indicated to treat heart block, Adams-Stokes attacks, bronchospasm in anesthesia, cadiac arrest, hypovolemic shocks, septic shock, hypoperfusion, congestive hear failure, and cardiogenic shock.[A15638,L33160] Isoprenaline research in the 1940s found that this isopropyl analog of epinephrine dilated the bronchi, as well as raising the heart rate and cardiac output, without vasoconstriction.[A233724,A233729] The US patent from 1943 states that this compound had a wider therapeutic index and a stronger action than [adrenaline].[L33204] Isoprenaline was granted FDA approval on 19 February 1948.[L33155]
Indications and Usage For the treatment of mild or transient episodes of heart block that do not require electric shock or pacemaker therapy also used in management of asthma and chronic bronchitis
