1. Where are the data from?

The protein-ADR associations were derived from literature surveillance of PubMed. The gene-ADR associations were determined by network computation of project ADRAlert. The genetic variation-ADR associations were derived from reliable public resources like DrugBank, GWAS Catalog, Allele Frequency Net Database, Ensembl and as well as literature surveillance.

2. How is the ADR standardization made?

ADReCS-Target standardizes ADR terms following the exact same protocol as ADReCS. Each ADR term in ADReCS-Target have a typical ADReCS ID (xxx.xxx.xxx.xx) and crosslink to ADReCS.

3. What is relationship between ADReCS-Target and ADReCS?

ADReCS-Target works independently; however, it serves as a key component of the ADR ontology database ADReCS. User can redirect to ADReCS by clicking on ADR terms in ADReCS-Target. Vice versa, the ADReCS adds one new section of “Target Profile” in the ADR detail information page for switching to ADReCS-Target.

4. How can I download the data? Is it free?

The ADReCS-Target data is absolutely FREE for academic use; however, registration is required for user statistics. The database allows user to download the full dataset via the Download page or selected records via embed download function in six formats like JSON, XML, CSV, TXT, SQL, and ms-Excel. ADReCS-Target encourages crosslink or re-development of the database. Use of ADReCS-Target for commercial purpose should contact the developer for license.

5. How to search database?

ADReCS-Target provides foolproof quick search method for data retrieval under all conditions. The search box accepts input keywords of different types, including ADR term (and synonym), ADR_ID, ADReCS_ID (in xx.xx.xx.xxx format), protein name, UniProt AC, gene symbol, gene Entrez_ID, genetic variation_ID (dbSNPs_ID in rsxxxx format), drug name (and synonym), and DrugBank_ID (DBxxxxx). The search engine will automatically recognize the pattern of input for exact search. For instance, an input keyword starting “DB” and following by five digits will trigger DrugBank_ID search. Otherwise, the engine will routinely search all above data types for hits in fuzzy mode. Current version of engine does NOT accept keyword combination and wild characters like “*, +”. For better search experience, we strongly suggest to use as possible as complete keyword or ID. Partial keyword or short keyword usually takes longer time for record searching and data visualization.

ADReCS-Target also provides browse method for direct data retrieval. The database adopts visualization technology to present all ADR associations in four-layer open circles. The four-layer open circles stand for ADR hierarchy of SOC, HLGT, HLT, and PT, from inner to outer, respectively. On each layer, there are circles of different colors and sizes. Different colors stand for different ADR terms in this ADR hierarchy layer; while the circle size is proportional to number of associations with the ADR term. Mouse-on any of the circles will prompt the information of associations with the selected ADR term. Clicking on a circle will redirect to the detail information of associations.
